Lola blends soulful vocals with introspective lyrics to create a truly captivating sound. With a style that is both raw and vulnerable, she draws listeners in with her emotive performances and a genuine, heartfelt approach to songwriting.

Lola’s journey as a musician began at a young age when she started playing the piano, recorder and saxophone and writing her own songs. Her early influences included the likes of Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan and Tracy Chapman, and she quickly developed a deep appreciation for the power of storytelling through music.

Her songs can be both melancholic and hopeful, with a depth and emotional resonance that captivates the listener and her music is characterized by haunting melodies and powerful vocals that resonate with listeners on a deep level. Lola is constantly evolving and pushing boundaries, always looking for new ways to express herself through her music in a way that reflects her eclectic taste in music and a love of experimentation.

After graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in Social & Political Science, Lola worked in the music industry in the UK at major and independent labels for a few years, determined to understand the business of music. She then moved to New York where she became a well-respected social, political and cultural writer, commentator and broadcaster using her voice and writing to provide incisive analysis about race, politics and the Black experience.

However, playing and making music has always been Lola’s first love.

She studied music seriously from childhood and throughout her life, and in her teens, was awarded a prestigious music scholarship at her secondary school.

Lola is a champion for the power of the arts as a catalyst not only for self-expression but for social change.

“I believe in the power of expression and in the power of using one’s voice and the gift of music, in order to make this world a better place”.

“Music reaches parts of the soul that nothing else can reach, and when I need to work something out emotionally, the first thing I want to do is write a song about it. Music has been there for me at my best times and during my worst times, so I hope my music does for people what good music has done for me.”

Lola is a recipient of a 2022/2023 National Arts Club Artist Fellowship.
